Retail Business Tips
;       Making Money with Your Retail Store

I have to chuckle sometimes about the comments made by some retail store owners about their store. One of my favorites is "It will not work in my town / industry". The one thing in common about these retail store owners is their store is mediocre or worst and they are conservative in nature. Instead of making excuses why something will not work, they need to make reasons why it would not A retail store owner not willing to try new things or adjust things is a deadly combination. It will eventually lead to the store closing.

Saying it will not work in your town or industry is a poor excuse and makes the store one step closer to the ultimate failure. I have done promotional sales in many industries and states across the United States. They work in all cases when the program is followed. It only does not work when the store owner wants to change or deviate from the program.

For example, I did a promotional bike store sale. I did some research and gave the store owner information about one of the largest independent bike retailers in the United States. The store that I researched used innovative ideas to grow his business. The store manager had never heard of this store and the manager made excuses why it will not work in his store. This low volume bike store could easily doubled its sales within two years by following these approaches, but continue to do business as usual. The sad part is there are many more owners and managers with this line of thinking.

In the good ole days, it was much easier to make a profit running your store like everyone else. With all the competition, the successful retailers made their store different to show the advantages in shopping their store. The successful retailer checks out other industries and visits other towns to find better ways to run their business. For your information, the most successful companies in the world do not rest on their laurels. They are always looking to improve every aspect of the operation. Once you become content and want to do business as usual, your retail store has started the road to failure.

Do not use the excuse it will not work in my town or industry anymore. Take the fantastic ideas you come across and use your resources to make it work. Successful Retail Store Owners have a mindset of learning and doing what is needed to take their business to the next level. Leave the excuses for the mediocre store owners and managers.
